The Big Crash

Friday didn't turn out as well as Hockey went last night. Jeremy, Randy and I were going to Dearborn for lunch with the old helpdesk team. Lunch was great and I enjoyed sitting down with my old boss to chit chat for a bit. It was time to get back to work, so we were leaving. She had giving us cookie trays and me presents for the boys. We went and picked up the food that we brought that wasn't eaten and made our way to my car. It was now raining harder and I think it was going sideways from the wind. We got all situated in the car and I noticed that I forgot my tray upstairs. As I was going back in, I noticed that I was missing my phone, but I figured that I lost it in the car. I got my tray and went back to the car. The phone wasn't there. Jeremy called it and there was no answer and we didn't hear it ring in the car. We traced al our steps and I went back in to see if I lost it upstairs, we called it a couple of times from up there and then I finally heard it ringing, it was in Jeremy's hand. He had been calling it the whole time that I was looking for it and found that someone on the 2nd floor of the building had found it in the parking lot. She was nice enough to give it back to him for me, even though I still think she wasn't going to turn it in. This would be important in a bit. We started back out for Livonia and the car was pretty quite. I think we were all in a food coma. We got onto I96 and then we started hearing it. It was like a ghost was howling, we started joking about that fact that they car might be haunted, when all of a side, we were making a sharp right turn and I wasn't turning the wheel. I tried to straighten out the car but all that did was line us up for the big gravel hauler that we were looking at. We hit it about the back 1/3rd of the trailer on one of the tires. The hit sent us back the 2 lands that we just crossed and we hit the wall with the back of the car. Then we came off the wall and spun either 2 or 3 times and then went back into the wall head first. The air bags deployed and we could see anything or breath, the car came off the wall and was now going backwards down the freeway. I was finally able to get the car stopped and got us over to the median. We all jumped out of the car like it was on fire, because we couldn't breath with whatever gas it was that was in the air bags. Air bags I was very thankful for having, Jeremy would have been through the windshield if it hadn't been for the airbag. He chooses not to wear his seatbelt. I hope this changes his mind. I had mine on and don't remember hitting the airbag, but they said my nose was red and that could have hit it. We stood up on the wall in the median for about an hour and 1/2 waiting for the cops and the wrecker to show up. The cops to me to my father who was on the other side of the road waiting for me and then he ran Jeremy and Randy back out to work for their cars. Dad and I followed the car to the shop and talk to the owner for a while. He said that we was probably going to total it. It was much shorter on both ends of the car now. I was very thankful for how that car was made and being that I work for Ford and I was driving a Nissan, I don't think we would have faired as well in a Ford. I will be buying one now, in fact the rental car that I have is a Ford Taurus. I think that is what I'm going to get now, or maybe a Mazda, but that is still a Ford company car. That would have been the end of the day for most people, but not for us.

That nigh we were supposed to be going to listen to Santa read stories. So when I got home, we packed up the kids and met the Brunicardi's at the community center for storytime. It was fun we listen to the story and then we sang songs and it made me feel much better about what had happened 4 hours earlier. The kids got to do some crafts and then they were going to sit on Santa's lap for a picture. They all wanted to go up together, so there they were Santa and six kids. There was a guy there taking pictures of them from the paper and he asked us lots of questions, so maybe they will get to be in the paper, we will see.

Saturday and Sunday were more like my type of days. I just laid around and watched TV and worked on my train layout. As you know a train layout is never done, it just looks like it is. I'm happy with the way that it looks now, but I'm wondering how I can get another level onto it. Here is the pic of the kids and one of the layout.

Well off to bed, we have breakfast with Santa in the morning and that is not that far away right now.
