The Digging Out

Well here we are the day after and we are still digging out. Not just from the snow, but also from the presents. We spent Christmas eve at my parents house and had a great time. Leaving there at 11:00 to make sure that we beat Santa to house. Finally got Garrett to bed about 11:45 and I worked on the website for a bit. If you hadn't noticed, it was gone for a bit. I was moving it to a new hosting site and having a hell of a time at that. Bye Bye Geocities!

But back to the real stuff. I got up from the computer about 12:30 to wake up my beautiful bride so that we could start our merriment of present putting out, when what to my wondering eyes should appear? About 2 inches of snow in the backyard, where there was none less then an hour ago when I brought all the presents in from my parents house. So we were going to have a white Christmas after all. Presents out and in bed by 1:30. I couldn't sleep, I was excited for the kids, I just love to see their faces, especially Garrett, this has been two months that he has talked about this day. That mood changed at 7:30 in the morning. All I wanted to do then was sleep, but I dragged my butt out of bed, when he came in to say that he got a toolbox just like mine, how did Santa know? Sandy said read the tag again and we will come out there. Then he realized that it was from Daddy. Now half awake and asleep, I came out to start the filming and picture taking that I have become accustom to doing on this day and the one previous. Thank God for night shot on the camera, or I would never get to see Sean. He is his Fathers son, doesn't want to get up before 10am. Garrett managed to wake Nicholas up and together, they got Sean up. Should have left him sleeping, not a happy camper. Then it begins, the blitzkrieg of paper flying every where. What took 3 hours to wrap in a cold basement, took 10 mins to tear about and be everywhere. Being my Fathers son. I got out the garbage bag and started putting it all in there making sure that I didn't throw anything out like I did last year. That was fun, going back out to the curb to dig through the box for silly putty that got stuck to some paper. 1 1/2 hours later, Sandy and I were able to open our presents. All the stuff had been put together, next time lets get the Lego set that has 5000 pieces in it!

I looked outside and decided that if we were going to go to her parents for the evening, I should get going on the driveway, you never know if the snow blower is going to start. It gets used so infrequently anymore. 2 pulls and it started right up, but the snow was not nice. The stuff on top was soft and powdery, but the stuff underneath was good for making a snowman and the blower wanted nothing to do with it. Our drive isn't that long, but it took an hour to do it. Sandy had wanted to leave about 1 1/2 hours earlier, so she was none too happy when Garrett, Sean and I wanted to make a snowman. But for as wet as it was on the drive, it wasn't very good on the lawn except for what I had put there from the drive, so we have a very bad looking snow man.

I came in, took a shower and off we went. We took 125 pictures in 2 days, this was the only one that we got of all of us.

We got home from her parents about 11:30pm, another long day, but my Mom, Sister and Grandma wanted to come over to see the train layout and tree. So after opening all the bags and throwing out all the boxes and everything else, we were off to bed again at 3:00am. We got up about 9:00am, thanks Garrett for sleeping in. We continued to clean and put things away and the crew showed up around 11:00am. It was good that they came over, it got us off our butts to get some of this stuff put away. The rest of the afternoon, I spent playing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on the computer with Garrett. I would have thought that he would like to play that himself, but he likes sitting on my lap and having me play. He has gotten into casting the spells, but sometimes he is too slow. We watched Ice Age, put the kids to bed and then I was off to Hockey.

Another busy day tomorrow, but we will get to relax tomorrow night and hopefully I will get to lay around and watch football/hockey on Saturday. But we are thinking about going down to the GLI for those that live in Michigan, you will know what that is. 4 college team hockey tournament that is played every year over the Christmas break.

If you have made it this far, more power to you. Leave a comment and let me know that you made it this far. Have a great one!
