Went to bed Wednesday night with our house sold and the house inspection done and the buyers still wanting to buy it. We had placed an offer on the house that we wanted, but knew there was going to be a counter, but it wouldn’t come till the next day (Thursday).
Got up and went to work as normal. About 10:30 called the realtor to see if he had heard anything and it started. He said the people that want to buy our house have added an addendum to the offer and now want us to give them 8000 more off for a new roof and furnace. So I hang up and mull that one over, now starting to fume. He calls me back again with the counter and says that they want the asking price, but will give us the money that we requested back for closing and a septic inspection. That was still 10000 higher then we wanted it to be for a house that has been on the market for almost 300 days and this was the first offer. So I told him to counter and I told him to offer our buyers 1000 towards the furnace. So the day goes on and at about 4:30 I get a call that they guy is hung up on the 8000. My best guess is that he didn’t have all the money that he needed and this was his way to get more. If we give him the 8000, we would have to walk into the closing and give him 3000 out of our pocket, the problem with just refinancing 6 months ago.
So I told the realtor to cut him loose and put the house backup, knowing that everyone from this point forward is going to have the same two complaints, so we are going to replace the furnace, but not touch the roof, its not in bad shape, its about 15 years old. So now the hunt for a new furnace at the cheapest price, because you see, this is going to cut our deposit in half on the house that we want, so we can pretty much kiss that one goodbye. The realtor always said to us to go looking till your sure that your house is sold. By the look of things, it has to be after you close and have money in had before you can go looking for a house, so that you can pay rent to them for 3 months while you go through the closing of your own house.
One brief shining moment on the day. Garrett and I went and got his Soccer stuff for practice after I got home only to find out when we got back from the store, that the practice was canceled due to the fact we are supposed to get snow this weekend.
So off to hockey I went. I see a sign on the freeway that they are going to be closing the next leg at 9:00. I look at the clock and it says 8:40, so I assume that I’m safe. Wrong, I get onto the freeway where I can’t get off, so I’m stuck behind all the other people that were thinking the same thing as me and now I don’t get to hockey till 9:15 when it started at 9. Get dressed and on the ice by 9:30 and by 9:45 catch an edge and go head first into the boards where I get briefly knocked out. I stumble back to the bench and sit there for a couple of minutes to get my bearing. I thought I was ok, but when I went back out I felt like I was going 5 MPH and the rest of the people were going 200 MPH. So I left and went home. About 2 miles from my house the whole right side of my body started going numb. It felt like your mouth does when you go to the dentist. When I got home and out of the car, it started to disappear. I went into the house and laid down with ice on my head and neck. I still have a pounding headache this morning, but its starting to go away.
Other key notes on the day, My buddy Ron woke up with chest pains and went to the hospital, after all the test, the doctors said they believe that he has a pulled muscle in his chest, so that was a relief to hear. He is the same age as me. I also just heard from his wife that her cousins husband was killed at work yesterday.
Last one, I guy I work with, his mother had a stroke last night.
If I could do it over again. I would sleep right through Thursday. What a downer from the high we were on the day before. Wednesday was also my 2 year anniversary with Ford.
