Get comfy and get something to drink, this is a long one.
I’m sure it is quite the same in other parts of this country, but I’m starting to wonder if Noah is working on his Ark for the Second coming. I have never seen as much rain as we have had this month. We were lucky, the insides or our house stayed dry and we didn’t seem to lose any power (I’ll get to that part), but my friends were not so lucky. One had a tree take out his roof, another had 2 feet of waste/water in his basement for 3 days. Still others have been without power.
We may have lost power, but I don’t think we did, the clocks weren’t blinking when we got home last night. The wedding was great once we got there. I think I looked hot and so did Sandy, but sadly, we forgot our camera, so we are hoping that we will see a picture of us from someone else. Let me take you back to Saturday morning, Sean had a t-ball game at 9:00am, Garrett had baseball pictures at 10:20 and we figured that we would do that and then pack and leave. My parents weren’t to my house when we got back from the pictures, so I decided to mow the front lawn. I had heard that kid disappeared in it the other day and I wanted to see if I could find him. So I completed the front and was going to wait on the back till today, but my father said he had nothing better todo and wanted to try out my new mower anyway, so he did the back and I packed and just cleaned up the house a little (very little). I decided to logon to the laptop and plot the trip on Yahoo, thinking this is Cleveland and it has only taking me 2 to 2 1/2 hours in the past. Trip map comes up and the total time is 4 1/2 hours (SHIT), its 12:30 and we don’t have the car packed yet and we have to get down there, Sandy needed to go to the store and we hadn’t eaten anything yet. Now I’m running around with my head cut off and we leave at 12:45, stop at the store, so she can get some jewelry (see sometimes I’m nice) and then decide that we will eat Wendy’s in the car on the way. Now being that my parents have cars and not buses, they took our van and my father loaned me his Acura Rl, let me tell you, I know why the Japs are killing us in the car wars. This car was awesome. It took us almost an hour to program our destination into the GPS Map thingy, but once it was in here, it would do everything but drive the car for you. I told Sandy that if I could marry the girl on the GPS, I would she never got us lost and always knew what direction we were going in. The 2nd great thing about this car is it has Satellite radio. For those of you that have ever driving to other states and just can’t find that kind of music you like to listen to because the people from that state only listen to this kind of music. This thing is for you. No commercials, No DJ’s and you have your choice of musical categories. So we listened to 80’s, alternative, Top 20 pop, sports and Comedy and it was the comedy that was the best. It would be little skits by comedians 5 mins, 10 mins at a time. It was really a good time killer and on the way back yesterday we had this one comedian on that was talking about machine gun sounds and the ones that we made as kids. So he stated asking guys what in the audience what theirs sounded like and I swear I almost had to pull over, I was laughing so hard. I was driving with tears in my eyes. I don’t know if that is a good channel for the car or not, but I can say I love that system and will do what I can to get it in my next car.
The wedding was great. I had never been to a Jewish wedding before, so it was quite the experience. I was happy to see that they do them faster then the Catholics. The hor’devers were unbelievable and the meal was awesome. The courses started at 8:00pm and we didn’t finish the last one till 11:30. You could have rolled me out of there I ate so much. So imagine how funny I looked dancing (then again I look funny when I’m not full).
Sunday morning we got up took showers and then the power went out in the hotel, so we packed at headed down to the brunch, thankfully the power was back on by the time we got down there. Another wonderful spread. I tell you these people know how to eat. They would rival the Italians any day. After brunch, we left for home but at a much slower pace and we wanted to stop and just spend some time together, so we decided on this Botanical garden and wouldn’t know the minute we pull in the parking lot, the heavens opened up again and drenched the world, so we made a fall back plan that took us to the Toledo Museum of Art. Sandy was quite surprised that I wanted to go there, but then she figured out why I like the paintings. Most of them were of some nude woman or another. Artists knew that was going to be the only way to get straight men in there.
We finally arrived back at my parents and had dinner with them, left for our hour ride home and were greeted going into the house with the Tornado sirens going off. We went down in the basement for about 1/2 hour till we heard the all clear and the boys and I laid down in the family room and watched Jurassic Park. I put them to bed and then off to watch the Matrix Reloaded before I had to leave for my hockey game at 10:30. I was slow getting going, because all I wanted to do was sleep, but I knew that my team would be upset if I didn’t show up, so I dragged my tired ass to the rink. I got into the locker room and we had a total of 8 guys. That sucked, I wasn’t interested in skating for most of the game but with only that many guys there was going to be no choice. To make matters worse, we got out on the ice and the other team had 17 or 18 guys with them. We did a wonderful job in the 1st period keeping them off the board as well as the 2nd with a little clock killing from one of our teammates who got in a fight and then thrown out of the game. We were able to finish the period off with us getting 2 goals and them getting none. The third period was a struggle. I couldn’t skate anymore, but tried my hardest. We were able to keep them off the board till 1:32 left in the game. We took the next face off and I played keep away for about 20 seconds on the clock and they got it from me and threw it into our zone. We were able to get it out and I skated down the left side, both defenseman jumped me, but I was able to throw a pass across to my partner and he drove to the net, but was just tied up enough to not get a shot off, he finally got something when we realized that their net was empty, but it hit the side of the net. I raced over there to try and pull it back and stuff it in, but no luck I missed the net also. There was 32 seconds left and our goalie stood on his head and kept the puck out and we ended up winning 2-1. Not bad for 6 guys over 35 and 1 21 year old against 18 20 year olds.
Hope your weekend was less eventful.
