Reading again?

I have never really liked reading. I like reading short stories and blogs, you should all know that, but when it came to books, I have hated reading. I find that when I sit and read a book, all I want to do is fall asleep. With the exception of the Harry Potter series, which I couldn’t put down and didn’t fall asleep. They were the first ones that I have read since High School. I know thats bad, but I learn things just from doing them, so I never needed to read books to learn in school. Which brings me to the point. I had gotten the Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the rings book for Christmas when the movies first came out and thought that I would tackle the books because I really couldn’t understand the movie and that is not like me at all. But like all other books, I couldn’t keep my eyes open for this.

A couple of months ago I went to lunch with my boss and he the entire book of Ulysses on CD (40 of them) that he was listening to in the car and that got me thinking, I spend an awful lot of time in the car, maybe I could do this to. I picked up a short version of Bourne Supremacy and listen to that and found that not only could I keep up with the story the drive didn’t bother me at all. So I moved on All Quiet on the Western Front. Something I started in High School and never finished. I listened to the Unabridged and was amaze at how great it was to be able to listen to the books and understand them. I moved onto The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. I’m now 1/2 way through the Two Towers and can’t wait to get all the way through The Return of the Kings so that I can watch all the movies and I figure I should just finish it before our Christmas break, which will give me plenty of time to watch the movies then.

The the dilemma of where to go next. I really can’t think of a book that I would like to read (listen to) next, but I think I might try The DaVinchi Code. I don’t know, we will have to see when I get there.

Its been wonderful to not get upset driving to and from work for a month and 1/2 now and once I found the Library had a lot of these books on CD, I didn’t need to buy them anymore. I don’t remember the last time I was in a library, it has to be 1989 or 90 and that was the real thing not the bar. So now looking forward to hearing more of the story, I will sit here and think about it for another hour before I can leave for home.

Am I cheating myself for not doing the reading?

My husband is not a big reader but loves to listen to books on tape/cd. What does it matter as long as you are enjoying the story and it makes your commute that much more tolerable?

Definitely go for the DaVinci Code- it's a great story. :-)

I don't consider it cheating yourself because you're in the car anyway. In fact, I think its a good idea. I want to listen to Bill Clinton's book on cd just because I like his voice. Heh, heh. Try The DaVinci Code next. It is SOOOOOO good!
