Something was going on last night in our city. I was getting ready for hockey and I had noticed that the sump was making more noise then normal. It had been running pretty constant over the last week because of all the rain we had gotten, I was looking at it and it was falling off the rock that it was on, so I grabbed it to move it back and the next thing I knew the pipe came out of the wall and I was drenched in water and it was still rushing back into the basement. I unplugged the pump and tried to fix the connection. No luck it was still leaking, so I would have to go up to the store to get new parts. I had Sandy come down and start bailing out. The water in the hole was rising quickly and it wouldn’t be long before the whole basement was flooded, so bailed and I ran off to Home Depot. It was 9:15 and the parking lot seemed very empty but I just assumed that it was because everyone was shopped out. Not the case, they seem to close at 9:00pm now, for their winter hours which just started this week, just my luck. I got back in the car and raced to Lowe’s and luckily they were still open, I got my parts and got home and fixed it and the water was exiting the house again. It was now well after 10:00pm so there goes hockey, so I cleaned up the water on the floor and then decided to just watch TV.
At about 10:20, the phone rings. There is a plumbing problem at the school and they will be closed tomorrow. I said I had nothing to do with it. Sandy being the call out person for both kids classes, started making calls. She had to make about 25 calls, she didn’t have all the kids, but it sure seemed like it. She was amazed at how many people didn’t put their numbers on the forms, so she was getting babysitters and aunts and uncles and they were asking why are you calling us? That was all that she had. So the boys are enjoying their day off and Sandy is wishing they would have gone. Oh well.

I'm very impressed with your quick DIY skills. A flooding basement is a bitch. I don't have a sump pump but my well room walls leak sometimes. So what did you have to fix? (my tinkering side had to ask..)
