The sky is blue because molecules in the Earth's atmosphere absorb only the blue wavelength of light that the sun produces. Other wavelengths pass through the atmosphere without being absorbed.
When the molecules radiate the energy they absorb, it scatters to nearby molecules that also absorb the energy. By the time it filters down to us, all we see is that the entire sky looks blue.
