blockbuster.com - No Late Fees
I remember reading something about this a couple weeks back, but then this past weekend I have been seeing a ton of commercials for it. I guess that NetFlix is kicking their butt. But if you read the fine print. You don’t have to pay a late fee for it anymore, unless you don’t return it within 7 days after the due date. Then the rental it changed to a purchase and you will be charged full price for it. So in the end they will make more money on videos being late then they ever did on late fees.
“Its So Beautiful” - my ass. We aren’t fooled by you. Besides PPV is cheaper then renting movies from you now anyway and I can save them to my DVR and don’t have to pay late fees or purchase price for them. Bye Bye Blockbuster.

Your last point leads into related topic of interest. How long can actual video stores like Blockbuster stay in business? We have the technology today to deliver movies straight into homes and even allow people to pause, rewind, fast forward, etc just like you would with a DVD. It's probably not something that most people will jump right into and just stop renting in a short time period, but it's conceivable that within 5-10 years time, PPV's like this could put a serious dent into rentals.

i liked using netflix (well, at least for the free trial.) my friend uses the blockbuster online program and the service and turnaround time hasn't been that great. but yeah, i agree, it's just a matter of time before PPV kills the rental biz.

Netflix Rocks.. we've been using it for over a year and love it. But if a service like Bittorrent ever goes commercial, even Blockbuster may be out of business. Unless of course they start their own streaming/VOD service.
