Busymom was writing about how busy boy was playing baseball and it brought to mind a funny situation from the game last night. We were in the top of the 6th inning and we were in the field. They had the bases loaded and the batter hit a shot up through centerfield. My two center fielders went after the ball after it hit the ground behind them. They both rushed out there after it and both wanted to throw it in and just before one had wrestled it from the other, the left fielder came over to help by jumping on both of them. By the time we got them calmed down and the ball thrown back in, they had scored the grand slam. Thursday we start playoffs and Thursday will be our last game. We aren’t playing the only team that we have beating this year, so I don’t feel that we are going to win it, but I would be OK if the kids could surprise me with a win.
On the t-ball front, we pitched to 4 of the kids last Saturday and they all hit the ball well, but Sean hit the ball the best (bias father here). But we had a very funny moment in that one. One thing that I have found with t-ball and 5 and 6 year old kids is that their attention span lasts about 2 minutes and with one of our kids, I don’t think its ever there. He was standing in the pitchers spot and the other coaches and I were talking to the other kids in the field and getting them where they are supposed to be when we turned around to see the one kid at pitchers mound with both his hands full of sand and just before I could say anything to him, he dumps the pile of sand on his face and front of his body. I was laughing so hard on the inside, but I did help him wipe his face off and get his glove on to play.
Coaching can be so much fun.

Oh the memories you are bringing back. I loved t-ball. My kid was the one doing the sand thing AND the flower thing. I guess I don't have to say that he didn't become a major league ball player. :)

Reminds me of our T-Ball days, too. I was the Dad in the outfield to help distract the kis away from the cool anthill - you can imagine what they wanted to do with that!
At least it was never hard to get some of the guys to volunteer to be in the outfield....
