Proud Coach / Father

Last night our season ended, but it was no surprise to me. We had only won 2 games this season and the team we beat both times, we didn’t play them last night. But they were playing my neighbors team and when we left it was tied, so I hope my neighbor won.

I was very proud of my boys, most of them gave it their all this season. I still had some sand diggers at the end, but a lot of them became ball players and in the last game everyone got a hit and that was what we really wanted for them. The game wasn’t close and they didn’t quit. I think the final score was 32-6. Yea everyone got a hit but we didn’t score much.

Garrett really came into his own this year. After game 3 he and I had a long talk about respecting the coaching and not screwing around, but still having fun playing and that if you play the game that will be fun in itself. Something finally sunk into his head at that time and he really was out there to play the game. He made 3 or 4 great plays last night getting the ball and one huge hit, but got hung up at 2nd because the kid in front of him on the bases only wanted to move one base. Its hard to get the t-ball mentality out of the younger ones. But it does happen.

The other coach and I talked after the game and decided that we would get together again next year to coach but would do it so that we could do our draft, we didn’t get to do the draft this year. We have a list of kids that we would like to have on our team and a list of kids we wouldn’t like to have, so we are going to do our best to make sure that happens. And who knows maybe we will win more then 2 next year.
