Arnold - When I was growing up I hated this name because of Welcome Back Kotter - Now I understand the meaning behind the reason that I have the name and thus it doesn’t bother me anymore. I’m named for the fathers of both my parents. First name is fathers father and middle name is mother’s father. Though I didn’t follow suit with my kids like that. I did give my father’s name to my first born as his middle name and my FIL got to be the 3rd son’s middle name. I game my name to the 2nd son.

After my daughter had already been named for a few years I heard the tradition of giving daughter's the mother's maiden name as a middle name so the name would "live" on thru the family. I wish we had done that. We didn't give our daughter a middle name however because I felt that her "hick" first name was more than enough to carry her thru life. And no, the name wasn't my idea it was presented to me during labor by my husband and I was in too much pain to argue the point except to say no middle name. Oh well...she gets to keep her last name as her middle name now whenever she marries and she's promised me if she ever has kids she'll put my maiden name in there somewhere. Nice kiddo with the hick name.

Yvett is my middle name. My first name is my mom's middle name. My brother's first name is my dad's name and my brother goes my his middle name. Too confusing. I gave my kids names no one else in the family has. Plus we're Mexican. We all would've been Maria or Jose.
