I'm Appalled

Boy: Coach paid him $25 to injure player - PittsburghLIVE.com Sandy just called me and told me that she saw something about this on the Today show today and I couldn’t believe what I was reading. This is t-ball that we are talking about here, its not the pros and it actually the farthest from the pros that you can get. T-ball is supposed to be a learning league for kids to grasp the understanding of hitting, fielding and throwing the ball. As you may or may not know, I coached both of my sons this year. One in t-ball and one in coach pitch. On the coach pitch team we had a kid who sounds similar to this kid and there were games that we wished he didn’t show up, but he always did and after a while we just worked with him more and more and thought by the end of the season that we had done a pretty good job with him. He was throwing better and he was hitting the ball and getting on base and he truly seemed like he was enjoying himself. We only one 2 games all season long and it wasn’t because we had this kid on our team. I can’t see how this other coach could think that the reason his team wasn’t winning was because of one player. It takes a team to win or lose.

I read the article this weekend. That's horrible. The thing is that a lot of people just want to win and aren't in it for the game. I'm dreading that time. We're not sporty at all but of course we're going to put Alec in t-ball or soccer or something.
