Secure Your Network

Man Charged With Stealing Wi-Fi Signal - Yahoo! News - I can’t believe that they arrested this guy for using someone’s unsecured wireless network. He just needed some internet access and this guy was giving it out. I don’t think that they should be able to arrest someone for using something that is floating around in the air free. If you don’t want someone to connect to your network, secure it. It tells you how to do it in the manual or you could look up on the internet on how to do it. I know that we have 3 or 4 wireless networks around my house and of the 4, not counting mine only one is secure, which is nice because they are on a different cable company from mine. So if mine ever goes down, then I can just jump onto theirs. But as long as you are not abusing it, I see nothing wrong with it.

I guess it's because of the illegal stuff that you can do by using someone else's network, but I agree with you. It's the own person's fault for not securing it. I'm far from techy but even I know that you have to secure your wireless network. Poor guy. I think they just want to make an example out of him.

I think there are certain expectations of privacy don't you? It's not a huge transgression you're right, but I think a problem anyway.

Then you get into the whole I pay for your internet access thing! It could be a breach of the contract you have with your ISP!
