To Cat, Or Not To Dog?

Can’t decide if I really want to get a pet or not. I feel like I’d be doing it wrong by leaving it at home, alone, for 8-10 hours a day while I’m at work. Seems like a horrible waste of a nice, big back yard, though. And the aloneness thing is just most pet’s lives anyways, and they seem to be OK with it.
